What StripHEIC does

StripHEIC is a free online tool that converts Apple HEIC / HEIF photos to standard JPG and removes embedded GPS and other EXIF metadata in the same step. Processing happens in your browser with WebAssembly and Canvas—your photos are never uploaded to a server.

Why convert HEIC and strip GPS?

iPhones often save photos as HEIC. Many Android phones, Windows apps, and websites still expect JPG. HEIC files can also store the exact place a photo was taken. If you share a picture from home, a sale listing, or travel, that location data can travel with the file unless you remove it.

How to use it

  2. Wait a moment while your browser converts and re-encodes the image.
  3. Review the metadata report showing what was detected and removed.
  4. Download the clean JPG. Close the tab to clear it from memory.

Frequently asked questions

Does StripHEIC upload my photos?

No. Conversion runs locally in your browser. You can verify in DevTools → Network: there should be no image upload requests.

Is HEIC to JPG free?

Yes. The single-file converter on this page is free to use.

Will GPS coordinates be removed?

Yes. After HEIC decoding, the image is re-encoded as JPG through Canvas so EXIF/GPS bags are not carried over. We also re-check the output before download.

What browsers are supported?

Modern Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on desktop. Mobile browsers work on many devices; very large files may be slower.
